On January 19th, 2008 the Kansas Fur Harvesters Association held their first fur auction of the new year in Abilene, Kansas, at Sterl Hall. The December 2006 fur auction is behind us now and we had around 30 lots that sold and I do not think anyone went away unhappy. The averages are below: 1546 coon sold with an average of $11.71  51 bobcats sold with an average of $101.65  15 red fox sold with an average of $20.87  1 gray fox sold with an average of $27.50  18 badgers sold with an average of $10.75  43 opossum sold with an average of $1.56  10 mink sold with an average of $22.45  192 muskrat sold with an average of $6.90  91 stripped skunks sold with an average of $6.39  118 coyotes sold with an average of $15.31  47 beaver sold with an average of $20.62  Remember to bundle you fur in larger bundles. We had several sellers that had there coon in bundles of 20 and that really helps speed the auction up. The buyers would also like the larger bundles. If you have large numbers of coyotes you need to bundle them in bundles of 10 or more. Remember to help push the fur across the table while you are waiting for your lot number to sell.
