On January 19th, 2008 the Kansas Fur Harvesters Association held theirfirst fur auction of the new year in Abilene, Kansas, at Sterl Hall.There were about 60 lots of fur present with a wide variety of nativefur bearers in each lot. The KFHA would like to thank our many trappersand fur buyers that attend these auctions and help to make them thegreat success that they are each year. The December 2006 fur auction is behind us now and we had around 30 lots that sold and I do not think anyone went away unhappy.The averages are below:

We had several sellers thathad there coon in bundles of 20 and that really helps speed the auctionup. The buyers would also like the larger bundles. If you have largenumbers of coyotes you need to bundle them in bundles of 10 or more.Remember to help push the fur across the table while you are waiting foryour lot number to sell. The February 2006 fur auction saw 68 members sell fur totaling $66287.65 and 12 buyers attending. As the January auction the finished fur far exceeding raw fur.
41 Badgers sold for an average of $ 8.02 with a $19.00 top.
237 Beaver sold for an average of $11.74 with a $25.00 top.
447 Bobcats sold for an average of $72.42 with a $260.00 top.
498 Coyotes sold for an average of $13.84 with a $32.00 top.
37 Red Fox sold for an average of $18.43 with a $23.00 top.
6 Grey Fox sold for an average of $18.58 with a $21.00 top.
15 Mink sold with an average of $19.13 with a $27.00 top.
672 Muskrats sold with an average of $3.87 with a $5.75 top.
504 Opossums sold with an average of $.89 with a $3.25 top.
2344 Raccoon sold with an average of $8.11 with a $17.50 top.
61 Skunk sold with an average of $2.80 with a $5.75 top.

Auction Results: JANUARY 21, 2006 SALE
The weather was nicer to us at this auction and we had 39 sellers and 11 buyers. We sold more Muskrats this auction than we have sold in many years. Hope this is a sign that the population is on the increase. Large coon sold well with finished coon well exceeding the average in price.

294 coyotes sold for an average of $12.90 with a top of $22.50(top was finished)
193 Bobcats sold for an average of $63.98 with a top of $145.00(3 cats sold for that amount)
140 beaver sold for an average of $11.47 with a top of $22.50(top was finished beaver)
225 muskrats sold for an average of $4.09 with a top of $6.00 (top was finished)
35 badgers sold for an average of $10.79 with a top of $25.00
21 Red Fox sold for an average of $17.98 with a top of $25.00(top was finished fox)
4 Mink sold for an average of $13.50 with a top of $17.00
19 Skunks sold for an average of $2.63 with a top of $4.00
611 opossum sold for an average of $.38 with a top of $2.50(was finished)
As shown above, finished fur sold better at this auction, taking most top prices.
